Requirements to Earn your CPCU

There are three requirements for becoming a CPCU:

One, to earn the prestigious CPCU designation, you must successfully pass 8 courses. These courses include 5 required core courses, plus three selected from an area of concentration in Commercial Insurance or Personal Insurance. Any questions regarding the courses best for you should be referred to the American Institute, Malvern, PA at 800-644-2101 or their web site at www.aicpcu.org.

Two, all CPCU designees promise to be bound by the American Institute's Code of Professional Ethics.

Three, you must fulfill an experience requirement. Within the five year period immediately prior to the conferment, you must have been actively involved in insurance activities approved by the Institute for a period of 36 months. The work must have required at least 17 1/2 hours of approved work per week.
