jack keirKeir Educational Resources was founded by Jack C. Keir, Ph. D., CPCU®, CLU® in approximately 1968. Dr. Keir started the company by writing and publishing supplements to help students who were studying for the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) designation. The CLU was conferred by The American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and for many years Dr. Keir was the Director of Curriculum and Examinations at the College. Soon after leaving the College to take a position as a professor of insurance at Temple University, Dr. Keir began preparing the supplemental study materials that have helped thousands of students to pass insurance exams. His desire to provide students with the additional help they needed for their insurance exams led to the formation of the company.

Following the success of CLU® supplements, Dr. Keir expanded his product line to offer supplements for CPCU® courses. Dr. Keir teamed up with other insurance professionals to write supplements for courses leading to designations such as the CPCU®, INS, AIC, and ARM.

In 1983 the company’s fulfillment center was moved from Wayne, PA to Middletown, OH. New printers were located in Ohio and mail orders were switched to Ohio. In 1984 the phone orders were moved to Ohio. In 1985 the company took a huge step forward and computerized. The preparation of the manuscripts by computer was a great improvement for authors, editors, and students. The company has continued to take advantage of technological advances by adding on-line courses and web-based review materials.

In 1984, the company began to develop its line of supplements for financial planning courses. The American College responded to the interest in financial planning with the new ChFC® designation. Keir followed with supplements for the ChFC courses. When the CFP® certification exam was born, the company began preparing course supplements and review materials for that exam. Text books and supplements for the FINRA licensing exams were added in the early 1990s, and on-line courses for these programs were developed in the next decade.

The business has had several locations in the Middletown, OH area. The Keir organization started as a cottage industry in the Keir home and moved to its first real office at 425 Clark Street in 1992. The operation outgrew those facilities in 2000 and moved to the current location at 4785 Emerald Way.

Today the company distributes study media for the CLU®, ChFC®, CFP®, CPCU®, and FINRA securities licensing examinations.
